A View of Canada from Space

Nov 1 2016: The Royal Canadian Mint officially unveilled a silver collector coin to commemorate and celebrate the 25th anniversary of Dr. Roberta Bondar’s Space Shuttle Mission, STS-42 -- the First International Microgravity Laboratory [IML-1] that became a template for cooperative Life and Physical science investigations aboard the International Space Station [ISS].  

In 1992, Roberta Bondar became Canada’s first woman astronaut and the world’s first neurologist in space. The #BondarCoin launch took place in Dr. Bondar's hometown, Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.

Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory

Landscapes of Biodiversity --- a special selection of fine art prints from the Travelling Exhibition and Learning Experience now showing at the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory includes new works and Bondar Challenge youth winners.

The show runs from May 4th until October 31 2016 in this remarkable, multi-gallery conservatory.

The Dr Roberta Bondar Air Cadet Training Program

The 155 Air Cadet Sqn. announced their Aircraft Maintenance Project, a partnership with the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre and the 155 -- a joint venture that is the first phase of the Dr Roberta Bondar Air Cadet Training Program. This is a unique Air Cadet optional ongoing training program and possibly the first of its kind in Ontario and Canada.

This partnership gives Air Cadets the opportunity to learn from qualified Aircraft Maintenance Technicians on how to service aircraft, engines, and how to conduct pre-flight check lists with hands-on training on real static aircraft and displays.

2013 Earth Month Youth Forum

2013 Earth Month Youth Forum was a partnership between Earth Day Canada’s EcoMentors and the ROM. 250 environmental youth leaders and educators form across the province participated in 12 workshops presented during the very full day. Dr. Bondar’s Keynote presentation highlighted the beauty and fragility of our changing planet. The Roberta Bondar Foundation delivered workshops, “Viewing the world through a different lens” in which participants worked hands-on with cameras and camera practice exercises.

The Bondar Challenge

The Bondar Challenge: students and teachers toured the Travelling Exhibition and Learning Experience at the First Canadian Place Gallery to kick off their participation in the Bondar Challenge competition. Dr. Bondar addressed the group, talking about capturing images in nature and how to think about the scientific elements of the photo they are taking as well as artistic dimensions they want to capture.
